What Oma collects, why, and — just as importantly — what it does not.

Last updated 9 October 2026

The short version. Oma is a marketplace for nail appointments in Nigeria. To book one you give us an email address; to be paid as a nail tech you give us more. Your hand photographs are measured on your own phone and are never uploaded — not to us, not to anyone. We do not sell anything about you to anybody, and there is no advertising in Oma.

Who we are

Oma is operated by OMA NAILS LTD, a company registered in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (RC 9859994). We are the data controller for everything described here. The rules for using Oma are in our Terms of Use.

What we collect, and why

WhatWhy
Email address It is how you sign in, together with your password. Oma emails you a six-digit code only to confirm a new account or to reset a password.
Your name So a nail tech knows who is arriving, and you know whose chair you are booking.
Area or address To show you techs near you. A nail tech who travels to clients gives an address; a customer gives an area.
Location, while you are looking Only when you ask to see who is nearby, and only while that screen is open. You can refuse and search by area instead.
Check-in near an appointment Customers and nail techs. While the screen of a paid appointment is open, from 3 hours before it to 12 hours after it was due to start, your phone tells Oma how far you are from the place. We keep that distance and the time, not your coordinates, only to settle a case where someone says the other did not come. Deleted 30 days after the appointment. Never when the app is closed. You can refuse in your phone's Settings.
Location, nail techs A nail tech with a shop can pin its address. A nail tech without a shop has their position recorded about once a minute during their working hours, including when their phone is locked or Oma is in the background, and shown to clients looking for a nail tech nearby. It stops when their working day ends and on days off. Only their current position is kept, not a trail of where they have been. See the Terms of Use.
How often you open Oma Each time you open Oma while signed in (in the app or on the website), we add one to a count for your account and note the time of the latest one, at most once every 30 minutes. It tells us how many people use Oma. We do not record where you were or what you looked at. It is removed soon after you delete your account.
Working hours The days and hours a nail tech works, so clients can book them only inside them.
Bookings and messages The appointment itself, and the conversation about it. A message thread exists only inside a booking — strangers cannot message you. When the booking ends the chat is hidden from both people, and Oma keeps a copy so that a dispute or a report can be checked.
Inspo pictures (customers) Up to three pictures you can add when you book, to show your nail tech the style you want. They are optional. The nail tech you booked sees them in Oma, and Oma can see one if it is reported. They are stored with a long random name and are not listed anywhere, but anyone who had the exact link could open one, so do not add a picture of anything private. We delete them 30 days after the appointment, and when you delete your account. A picture a nail tech has reported is kept until we have looked at the report.
Payment records What was paid, when, and to whom. We never see or store your card details — those go directly to Paystack, our licensed payment processor. A booking fee of ₦75 is charged on top of the price of the appointment; it is Oma's own income and is recorded apart from the nail tech's payment.
Bank account (nail techs and clients) A nail tech gives a bank account so Oma can pay her withdrawals; a client can save a refund account so Oma can refund her. We keep the bank name, account number and account name you give us, only to send you money. Oma sends it from its own bank, Kuda, so Kuda sees that account. We never see or store card details.
Identity check Nigerian law and simple safety: a customer is trusting a stranger with money, and a nail tech travelling to a home is trusting one with rather more. Every nail tech; a customer only for home appointments. See below — this one deserves its own section.
Safety reports If you report someone you met through a booking, we keep what you wrote and any video you attach. The person you reported is never told who reported them and can never see it.
Customer care chat If you write to us on omanails.com you give a name and a message, and if you like an email address or phone number. We also note which page you wrote from. You do not need an account. We keep the conversation so that we can answer you and follow up, and we delete it if you ask at hello@omanails.com. Your browser remembers the chat so you can come back to it.
Portfolio photographs Only the pictures a nail tech chooses to upload of their own work. These are advertising and are public by design.

Your hand photographs

They never leave your phone. When you scan your hands, the measurement happens inside the web page on your own device. The image is not uploaded, not stored on our servers, and not seen by us or by any nail tech.

What is saved is the result — a nail shape, a few measurements, and the date — and that is saved on your phone, not ours. Clearing it is one tap in Settings.

If we ever want to keep photographs — to improve how the measurement works — we will ask you first, in the app, in plain words, and you will be able to say no and keep using Oma exactly as before. We will not start doing it quietly and update this page afterwards.

Identity checks

A nail tech cannot appear in search until their identity is verified. This is what lets a customer hand money to someone they have never met.

A customer is asked for the same check before a nail tech will travel to their home — and only then. Booking at a salon needs none of it. The person taking the risk should not be the only person who has been checked.

We ask for a virtual NIN (vNIN) — the temporary 16-character token you generate yourself with *346# — and not your actual NIN. The vNIN is passed to a NIMC-licensed verification provider and is never stored by Oma.

What we keep is the answer: whether the check passed, the provider's reference number, and whether the name matched. Not your date of birth, not your address, not your photograph, none of the other information the provider returns.

We also keep a fingerprint: a one-way scrambled code made from what the provider sent back. It exists for one reason — so that somebody removed from Oma for harming another person cannot come back under a new email address. It is not readable, it is not your NIN, and it cannot be turned back into anything about you. Nothing is published: Oma does not name anyone it has removed, ever.

What we do not do

Who else sees it

Only where the service cannot work otherwise:

How long we keep it

Your account details for as long as you have an account. Records of completed appointments and payments for longer, because they are financial records and both people in a booking have a claim on them. Inspo pictures and check-in distances are kept for 30 days after the appointment. Location positions and other records are kept only for as long as Oma needs them to run the service, settle disputes, keep people safe and meet the law.

Deleting your account

In the app: Settings → Delete my Oma account. It is not hidden behind an email to support.

Your name, email, phone, area and listing are erased, your sign-in is destroyed, and you cannot get back in afterwards. Past appointments remain as financial records with your name removed — an appointment has two people in it, and deleting yours entirely would delete a nail tech's record of work they were paid for.

Inspo pictures you added are deleted with your account.

Oma will refuse to delete your account while money is in the middle — an appointment paid for but not finished, a dispute open, or a balance in your wallet. It tells you exactly what to finish first.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@omanails.com and we will answer within 30 days.

Age

You must be 16 or older to hold an Oma account, whether as a customer or as a nail tech.

So if you are 14 or 15, you need your parent or guardian's permission to use Oma, and they may contact us about your information at any time using the address below.

We do not knowingly hold anything about anyone under 16.

Changes to this page

If we change what we collect, we will change this page and say so in the app before the change takes effect — not afterwards.
